Irene T. Mencl, a long-time resident of Union, passed away at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center on January 21, 2024. She was 90.
Born in Malynsk, Poland to the late Jozef and Zofia Szczepaniak. She came to the USA in 1956.
She loved to read, spend time with family (especially at her lake house) and crochet. She was always eager to help take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Irene was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel RC Church in Union. She worked for Two Guys in Union for over 30 years. When the store closed, she went to work at Conca D’Oro in Union, selling pastries and cakes.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Jiri Mencl. She was the loving mother of Irene Riolo and her husband Vincent and Narcissa Caffarello and her partner Larry Chonoles; cherished grandmother of Steven Riolo, Chris Riolo and his wife Valerie Foresta and Vincent Riolo and his wife Kelly. She was a devoted great-grandmother to Peyton, Emma, Jackson and Aiden. She is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews.
