James Thomas Pappas, 92, of Chatham NJ, beloved father and grandfather passed away at Morristown Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Born in Summit, NJ, he was the son of the late Thomas and Anthula Pappas, and brother of the late John Pappas.
Jim graduated from Chatham High School in 1949 and attended Seton Hall University where he was a member of the Men’s Soccer Team. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war. He spent over 40 years as a contract manager with the Kearfott Division of Singer Business Corporation in Little Falls, NJ.
While being a lifelong Chatham resident, he was part of the Great Reunion Committee, Chatham Softball League and a member at the Chatham Fish & Game Club, where you could often find him playing tennis and paddle tennis. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid golfer and was known as one of the greatest athletes to have ever graced the halls of Chatham High. He is also known to have enjoyed a nice glass of Cabernet with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gail (Stephens) and his children, Denise Pappas Magnusen and her husband Robert of Long Valley, Thomas Pappas and Caroline Farnsworth of Morristown, Andrew Pappas and Ann Phillips of Sebago ME, Kristy (Brunner) Evans and her husband Craig of Whippany. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Alyssa and Connor Magnusen, Ryan and Evan Pappas, Shane and Kendall Evans.
