James J. Tunny, 89, of Chatham, NJ, passed peacefully on October 30, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 85 Washington Ave. Chatham, on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10 am. Interment Fair Mount Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham on Friday, 2-4 & 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name may be made to the Chatham Emergency Squad, 45 Spring St. Chatham, NJ 07928.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Jim resided in Chatham for many years. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School, received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Peter’s College, and his Law Degree from St. John’s University Law School. Jim was a Major in the National Guard, as well as a member of the Veteran Corp. He worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, the Naturalization Examiner, Thomas H. Graham Real Estate, and Chicago Title Ins. Co. He was President of the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, and coaching/attending youth sports. Jim was a Brooklyn Dodger fan forever. He had a vast knowledge of many topics, and was always interested in other people.

Jim is pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Tunny. He is survived by his children, Jim & wife Ellen, Margaret Nilson & husband Geoff, Betty Bodenweiser & husband Steve, Joan Maytus, Mary Weichert & husband William, John & wife Beth, Eileen Turrisi & husband Jeff. He is also survived by grandchildren, Beth, Jim, Colin, Sarah, Brendan, Stephen, Shelby, Annie, Emily, Willy, Claire, Jack, Rachel & Joey, his sisters, Patricia & Katy, and brother, Tom. Jim is pre-deceased by his two sisters, Ellen & Michelle. The Tunny family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Tricia Fowler and the staff at Chatham Hills Care Center, Chatham Township, NJ.
