Jane A. Holmes United Methodist Leader Jane A. Holmes, 92, of Basking Ridge, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2013 following a brief illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:30am at Bishop Janes United Methodist Church, 22 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ. Burial will be private. Born in Danville, Illinois, on September 21, 1920, she lived most of her growing up years in Hoopeston, Illinois, and most of her adult life in Chicago, Illinois, having moved there in 1949. Jane moved to Basking Ridge in 2003. During her career, she became Vice President of the American Dairy Association, and was responsible for its “June is Dairy Month” advertising campaign for many years. She was very active in the United Methodist Church of Northern Illinois, serving as Conference Secretary for many years. Jane also belonged to the League of Women Voters, and was a tutor for many years. With her love of knitting, Jane belonged to the Piecemakers of Bishop Janes United Methodist Church. For so many years of her life, Jane dedicated herself to her Church. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Jane is survived by her son John (Nancy Sours) of Kensington, California and her daughter Kitty (Dave) of New Providence, NJ; grandsons Tim (Saranell) of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Andy of Broomfield, Colorado; and three great grandchildren Simeon, Elliana and Jeremiah Hartman. Jane was predeceased by her son Robert in 1969. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bishop Janes United Methodist Church, 22 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
