Janith M. Collins, 65, of Union, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Janith was born on August 11, 1949 in Glen Ridge, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander and Janith (nee Richardson) Spratt.
Jan was very crafty and enjoyed making ceramics. She was known to many as an “animal whisperer” because she loved all animals. She was very involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Jan held numerous positions in the Cub Scout Program. Among them, Committee Member, Den Leader, Den Leader Coach, and eventually Cub Scout Round Table Commissioner. She is the recipient of the Scouters Key Award, and Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest award given to an adult volunteer. She was a devoted member of Azure Chapter #87 Order of the Eastern Star . She also served as an EMT at Winnebago Scout Reservation. Janith loved the beach and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Allen Collins of 45 years; daughter, Irene Traynor and her husband John, son, Brian Collins and wife Cherie, as well as her loving grandchildren James, Colin, and Gannon Traynor. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bonnie Torres and husband Victor and nephews, Andrew and Matthew Torres and a niece, Kelly Torres. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Allen Collins in 2011.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, NJ 07083. A celebrant service will follow at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
