Jere Wilson O’Neill, 91, of Toms River and formerly of Short Hills, New Jersey passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019.
Jere was born on April 24, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Dorothy (nee Craig) O’Neill.
He was a 1946 graduate of Millburn High School and entered the United States Navy during World War II where he served on the USS Fargo. Jere married his high school sweetheart Gloria Carol Goehmann on June 25, 1949. He furthered his education at Drexel University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Jere worked for RCA for 35 years where he developed the Broadcast Microphone and held the patent in “Shielding Design” for unmanned space satellite.
He taught at Camden County Vocational School at night for many years and worked at Singer-Kearfott. Jere volunteered for the Roxbury Township Emergency Management Squad and was very active in the Lutheran Church. He was an amateur radio enthusiast, call letters K2LJE, and enjoyed remote control aircraft. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and loved watching and spending time with his grandchildren.
Jere is survived by his much loved and devoted wife of 70 years, Gloria Carol O’Neill and was the father of Carol Jere Tharp (Charles). He was the adored grandfather of Brittany O’Neill (Marc) and Adam Tharp (Kim). He was predeceased by his siblings; Craig and Martha.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 pm in the funeral home. An interment will follow at Fair Mount Cemetery, Chatham, NJ.
