Joan Avis Alderton

Joan Avis Howie Alderton was called home on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the age of 82. She was a graduate of Colby Junior College in New London, New Hampshire. Joan and her loving husband of 60 years, John, have resided in Florham Park for 55 years. It is here that they raised their three children and enjoyed a lifetime of loving family gatherings. She was passionate about life and loved to entertain family and friends at home. She never failed to amaze her guests as both chef and hostess. Joan was a founding member and teacher of the Calvary Presbyterian Nursery School in Florham Park. She also served as an Elder, Deacon and Stephen Minister at Calvary Presbyterian. She was a member of the Florhamaires and served as President of the Calvary Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. Joan was pre-deceased by her son James Buchanan Alderton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Jack Alderton and his wife Edith, her son Jeffrey Alderton and his wife Lee Ann, her daughter Jill Imhof and her husband David, her grandchildren, Jay Alderton and his wife Melissa, Taylor Alderton, Cory Alderton, Bradford Alderton, Ryan Imhof, Andrew Imhof and Jessica Imhof, as well as her sister Nancy Howie, her brother Mel Howie and his wife Peggy and Sister-in-law Edith Mutch and a host of nieces, nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews. Friends are invited to join the family for a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 144 Ridgedale Ave., Florham Park NJ.
