Joan Marie Gargiulo, 83, of New Providence passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, at home with her beloved husband of 59 years at her side.
Joan was born on January 10, 1935 in Ridgewood, Queens. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (nee Kopch) Kump. Always proud of her Queens, NY heritage, she nonetheless was persuaded by her husband Richard to move to NJ after their marriage to raise their family. She resided happily in New Providence for the rest of her life, devotedly raising her and Richard’s four children and actively and joyfully participating in the lives of their nine grandchildren. She volunteered at Our Lady of Peace School, where all her children attended grammar school. One of her great joys was spending summer months in Italy with her family.
Joan is survived by her husband Richard, their four children and their spouses, Diane (Richard Incitti), Michael (Patricia), Richard John (Linda), and Carolyn. She will always be cherished by her nine grandchildren, Monica (Thomas), Peter (Katherine), Richard Joseph, Andre, Kirsten, Gianni, Gabriella, Anton, and Michael Andrew; and by her four great-grandsons, Richard J., Charles, John, and Jack.
She was predeceased by her siblings, William, Emma, and Richard.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, April 13 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ, 07901. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 at Our Lady of Peace Church, 111 South Street, New Providence, NJ, 07974. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit. The family requests that in lieu of flowers friends consider making a donation in memory of Joan to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.
