Joan Gunther Pierson of Chatham, NJ passed away on January 25, 2022 at the age of 86. Joan was born in Bergenfield, NJ to August and Elizabeth Gunther on February 24,1935. She attended Bergenfield High School. Joan danced professionally, becoming the youngest Rockette at age 15.
Joan married Greg Pierson on May 23, 1970. They raised their daughter in Califon, NJ where they lived for 15 years. She worked at Purnell School, Center for Addictive Illnesses, the Visiting Nurse of Somerset County, AT & T, Lucent Technologies, and the Hills Highlands Management Association.
Joan had an endless desire to help others. She volunteered for Domestic Violence Services of Somerset, National Suicide Hotline, and Hospice of Somerset Hills. Ending her long career, she retired at 78 years old.
Joan’s most fulfilling role was being a Grandmother and was affectionately known to all as Nana. She never said “no” to her grandchildren who brought her endless joy and happiness. Joan is survived by her daughter Marni (husband Matt Baum), grandchildren William, Pierson, and Matthew, Jr., her sister Judy Mazur (Joseph Mazur), her niece Laura Milo and nephews Michael Mazur and Jeff Mazur.
