John W. Baker

~~John W. Baker, 80, of Mountainside, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at home. Born in New York City and raised in Brooklyn, John also lived on Long Island before moving to Mountainside in 1969. He served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956. John attended Adelphi College and Hofstra University in NY on a part-time basis while raising his children with his late wife Marion. He held many positions throughout his career; his last position was at Nortronics Corp in Ridgefield, NJ before retiring. John was a model plane enthusiast and belonged to the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was a member of The American Legion, Post No. 1000. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and in his younger years coached baseball.

John was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Marion in November, 2009 and his eldest daughter Kim Mullen in January, 2011. He is survived by three children, John C. Baker and his wife Kimberly of Westfield, Lori J. Buthmann and her husband Richard of Springfield and Jan E. Mann and her husband Christian of Phillipsburg. John is also survived by six grandchildren Brad, Lindsey, Erich, Kevin, Susan and Hayley, son-in-law Timothy Mullen, and a cousin Valerie Baker Brown of Rockland, Maine.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ on Thursday, January 22nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.
