Jose A. Guerreiro, 92, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at CareOne at Livingston surrounded by his family.
Jose was born on January 9, 1923 in Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jose and Armandina (nee Rodrigues) Guerreiro.
Jose was a painter by trade and later owned and operated Robert Huetz Painting Company before retiring. He was nicknamed the “puzzle master” by his grandchildren because there wasn’t a puzzle he couldn’t finish. He enjoyed word finds, loved soccer and spending time with his family. He was a former charter member and past president of the Union Portuguese Lions Club and was also a member and past president of the Portuguese Sport Club, Newark, NJ.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lourdes and his daughter Pilar. He was the father of daughters; Palmira A. DeCampos and husband Antonio, and Dina Rego. He was the treasured grandfather of four grandchildren; Bernadette Capuzzo and husband, Christopher, Yvette Deaver and husband, James, Danielle Rego and Gianna Rego and four great-grandchildren; Christopher Capuzzo, Nicholas Capuzzo, Dean Deaver and Logan Deaver. He was also survived by his sister, Rita Guerreiro, brother-in-law, Jerry Xavier and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, NJ 07083. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ 07083. An entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jose’s name may be directed to St. Jude Children’s’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
