Joseph Alojzij Batic

Joseph A. Batic of Springfield died at Morristown Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 29, 2012. He was 82. Born in Sémpas, Slovenia, he came to the US when he was 22. A Springfield resident for the past 40 years, he previously lived in Maplewood and Newark, New Jersey.


Joseph was predeceased by his wife Jutta (Schlieker) and daughter Monica Leyva. He is survived by son Robert and his wife Donna of Montville, grandchildren: Cory & Erika Batic, Joseph & Sophia Leyva, son-in-law Gerardo Leyva and sister, Pepca of Gorizia, Italy.


Joseph was a proud US Marine during the Korean War. Upon his return he became a circuit board tester for Western Electric in Kearny and later owner of Joseph Batic Exterminating. Joseph was an amateur Bee Keeper and was known by friends as “Joe the Bee Man”. He loved all animals and was at times their protector when he saw them being mistreated.
