Joseph “Joe” Mulligan, 85, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on June 30, 2022.  Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Joe lived in Belleville and has been a resident of Union for over 55 years, with his wife of 62 years, Kathleen.

Joe served in the Army from 1957-1959.  He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and worked at New Jersey Bell for 37 years before retiring.

Joe was a family man who loved to spend time on vacations and at Pine Beach with his family.  He enjoyed sitting on the beach reading; as well as attending and watching Notre Dame football games. Watching his grandchildren perform on stage in dance and theater, as well as attending baseball, soccer and football games brought pure joy to Joe.

Joe was an avid, life-long Boy Scout.  It began with his youth Troop 97 out of Irvington, NJ, then Troop 69 of St. Michael’s, Union, NJ.  He was very active and held many positions, including Scout Master, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Trip Chairman. He loved camping with his 3 sons who all achieved Eagle Scout and traveled to Philmont with them. He also chaired the Scouting for Food drives at Thanksgiving and Easter annually. He received the Silver Beaver Award, Bronze Pelican and St. George Award.

Joe was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4504 in Union, NJ.

Joe is survived by his wife Kathleen and children Joseph(Kelly), Christine Bevensee (Richard), and Scott (Yang).  Also survived by grandchildren, Catherine, William, Ryan and Caroline Bevensee, Scott, Sean, Leah and Joseph Mulligan,  Joe has 3 surviving sisters Rita(Jerry) Weber (Arizona), Gail O’Connor (Spring Lake), Janet (Daniel) Martin (Arizona);  his brother in law Joseph Schaad and his wife Lisa(Union), niece Lisa(Ryan) Mass. He is predeceased by his son Paul and parents Joseph and Dorothy.  He was loved by many extended family and friends.
