Josephine “Jo” Garrubbo of Chatham, NJ formerly of Union, passed away in Reed City, MI., on August 3, 2018. “Jo” was born 12/27/1920 in Newark to Giuseppe and NIcolina (Spano) Loria, grew up Irvington along with her sister, Mary, Frances, Virginia, Nettie, and brothers Harry, Al, Vinnie and Phil, now all deceased. When Jo married Michael Garrubbo in 1941, they lived in East Orange for several years then moved to the “country”, Union where they raised 3 children. As Jo had an interesting career as a sales manager in Teppers Department Store in Short Hills, a Salon Technician/Manager at Anthony Garubo Salon in Maplewood. Jo was known for her baking and cooking. She took great pride in the presentation of all her dishes, not only be delicious, they had to look perfect. Jo was truly famous for her kind mentoring and compassion to all. She had an amazing quality to comfort, because she cared. She will be remembered as a great role model and mentor to many. Jo moved to Evert, MI in 2014 to spend her remaining years with her daughter Beveryl and family.“Jo” is survived by her son Anthony (Renee) of Chatham, NJ, her daughter Beverly (Bill) of Evert, MI. and son-in-law Larry Yannuzzi of Middlesex, NJ, 6 grandchildren, Craig, Lauren, Janine, Ashley, Rebecca & Adam, 9 great-grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Therese, Issac, Madeline, Amanda, Ella, Reid & Samantha. “Jo” is pre-deceased in death by her husband, Michael, her daughter, Phyllis Yannuzzi, two grandchildren, Eric Mills and Paige Garrubbo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 12 pm at St. Vincent’s Church, Madison. Fr. Owen Moran will officiate. Entombment Hollywood Memorial Park.
