Joyce Brandstatter

E. Joyce Brandstatter, 84, a resident of Mountainside, NJ for 55 years, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 pm at Community Presbyterian Church, Mountainside, NJ. Friends may gather with the family after her service.

Joyce was born January 10, 1929 in Elizabeth, NJ and was the daughter of Grace Curran Kimbel Holland and Charles Kimbel. She graduated from Barringer HS and Newark School of Fine Industrial Arts in Interior Design in Newark NJ.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, William Brandstatter Jr. and her brother Chuck Kimbel. She is survived by her son William Brandstatter III and wife, Tracey (McAvenue) of Summit NJ, her daughter Gail Brandstatter Cope and husband, Craig Cope of Virginia Beach, VA , and her sister Yvonne Kimbel Jeka of Mountainside, NJ. She is fondly remembered as “DeDe” by her four grandchildren, Grace Cope, Alex Cope, Sayre Brandstatter and William Brandstatter IV.

Joyce will be remembered by all by the smile in her bright blue eyes and her giving spirit. She received everyone as a friend with open arms and heart. She loved to read, play bridge and express her love of art through oil painting. She volunteered many hours with Girl Scouts, PTA and the Newark Academy Mothers Association. Before her marriage she had a professional career with Prudential in Newark, NJ. After raising her children, and the death of her husband, she became owner and design consultant of Brandstatter Construction Co. until her retirement. Her son continues the family firm. She spent her summers enjoying her shore home with family and friends on Long Beach Island, NJ.

In honor of Joyce, please wear bright colors or animal prints to celebrate her life on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to William Brandstatter Memorial Fund at Newark Academy, Alzheimer’s Association, or Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside, NJ.
