Julia Virginia Luria
02/27/1923 - 02/17/2024

Julia Virginia Luria (nee Grobarz) of Chatham, New Jersey, adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2024, having graced this earth for almost 101 years. Julia was born and raised in Summit, New Jersey, along with her three siblings, Anastasia (Stell), Joseph and Thomas, by loving parents who emigrated from Poland and the Ukraine. Despite the challenges of the Depression and World War II, her memories of her years living on Lafayette Avenue were incredibly happy ones, of simple pleasures and a host of wonderful neighbors who became family. Julia graduated from Summit High School in 1940, having there met the love of her life and future husband, Roger Joseph Luria. Julia and Roger had a loving 49-year marriage and raised four happy children in their home on Myrtle Avenue in Chatham Boro, where she lived for almost seventy years.

Julia—‘Jule” to most—was a beautiful gift to all she met: quick to laugh and always smiling, her vitality, positivity, generosity, open-mindedness, patience, creativity, strength and warmth meant that everyone who met her loved her. Jule hosted countless family holidays, Sunday dinners and parties, snuggled and babysat 14 grandchildren, was a tireless, devoted and gentle caregiver to many loved ones, maintained a beautiful and welcoming home, planted and nurtured her lovely gardens, donated countless hours to Saint Patrick’s PTO and veteran’s organizations, balanced checkbooks to the penny at home and work and danced many a joyful polka. Julia was the cherished wife of Roger Joseph Luria, who spent his career with Chubb Insurance Company and predeceased her in 1999, and beloved mother of Roger Luria and his late wife Brenda of Westfield, Gail Luria Smith and husband Frank of Basking Ridge, Mark Luria and wife Hali of Chatham, and Joyce Luria Nowlin and husband Craig of Philadelphia. Grandma Jule was equally adored by her grandchildren: Nicole Bosie, Rachel Luria, Evan Smith, Alison Jackson, Wyatt Smith, Cole Nowlin, Nolan Luria, Aubrey Luria Walsh, Elke Luria, Inga Luria, Greta Luria, and Darlene DiPuma; her great grandchildren Dylan, Robbie, Tyler, Reese, Duffy, Julia and Daphne, and far too many nieces, nephews and friends to mention.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 11 am to 2:30 pm with Prayers at 2:30 pm at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, NJ. Interment St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit.
