June Wessel
06/30/1932 - 08/05/2024

June Wessel, born to Alfred and Helen Rosener in New York on June 30, 1932, died peacefully in her home on August 5, 2024, after a long fight with dementia. For the past eight years, June lived in New Providence, NJ. Before that, she lived in Summit, NJ for forty-six years.

June graduated from New Jersey College for Women (which later became Rutgers University’s Douglass College), where she was the president of the Class of 1953. She was a math teacher at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, NJ for twenty-six years. After retiring from teaching, she became active in many charitable organizations. She was a board member of both SHIP (Summit Helping Its People) and Summit’s The Connection.

June was compassionate and generous; she was known throughout the community for the many ways in which she helped others. Her favorite activities were knitting, water aerobics, book clubs, gardening, and delivering books to homebound people. June’s family was the pride and joy of her life. She remembered all birthdays and anniversaries, of both friends and family. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Dodgers and Celtics. June’s favorite place was Martha’s Vineyard where she had many special times.

June is survived by her husband of 71 years, Robert, who she met on New Year’s Eve 1950. She is also survived by her sons Alan Wessel (wife Jeannie) and Jay Wessland (wife Marla); granddaughters Emily Estes (husband Andy), Jane Wessel Malnar (husband Micah), and Sara Wessland; and great grandson John Wessel (Wes) Estes.
