Leonard D. McCue

Leonard D. McCue (“Macpa” to his grandchildren), age 97, passed away at home in Short HIlls, NJ on April 28, 2021. He was born December 5, 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Following high school he enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant. Leonard begin his work career in New York City with H. P. Winter and Company, then later moved to Jacksonville, Florida with Prudential Insurance Company as Director of Public Relations and Advertising. In 1973 he transferred to Newark, NJ with Prudential and received his Vice Presidency. In 1985 he retired from Prudential after a 30 year career to enjoy travel and golf. Leonard was very active in various charitable causes during his lifetime including Lions Club, United Way, Florida Public Television, and serving as New Jersey State Chairman for the American Cancer Society. He was also a member of SPEBSQSA singing with a barbershop quartet when he was younger, faithfully attended the Marine Corps Birthday celebration every year, and later enjoyed being a member of the Summit Old Guard. He was a longtime member of Community Congregational Church and Canoe Brook Country Club.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ann McCue; Daughter Alexandra Rains (Andy), St. Augustine FL; Son, Douglas Mccue, Hopatcong NJ; Stepdaughter Kyle Coleman (Linda Primerano), Nutley NJ; Grandchildren Jacob Somers (Dori), Savannah GA; Lauren Somers, Jacksonville FL; Andrew Rains (Miranda), Brunswick GA; Scott Rains, Ponte Vedra Beach FL; and Karen Howard (Nick), Orange Park FL; and numerous great-grandchildren, a great great grandchild, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Bayview New York Bay Cemetery in Jersey City, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. “In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society in honor of Leonard’s lifelong dedication to fighting cancer.”
