Leslie R. Miller, 82, of Union N.J., passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Overlook Hospital. in Summit. Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Miller lived in Irvington for 23 years before moving to Union 32 years ago. After attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Mr. Miller enlisted in the United States Army in 1950, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant, 1st class and was a military reporter for Stars and Stripes. While serving in Ansbach, Germany, he met his wife, Helga E. Stemmer. The two celebrated their 56-year, anniversary last November .
During his professional career, Mr. Miller was employed as a purchasing agent by the Inmont Corporation. During retirement, he worked as a travel agent, pursued his passion for assessing trends of the stock market and could be seen walking everywhere around Union. Ever since attending Rutgers University in 1948, he remained a die-hard fan of the Rutgers Football team, for which he was a season ticket holder and attended every home game since 1964.
Surviving are his wife, Helga Miller; his four children, Ellen Voltolino and her husband John, Glenn Miller, Heidi Caponigro and her husband Anthony, and Danielle Miller-Burman and her husband Daniel; his six grand-children John Voltolino, Jr., Christopher Voltolino, Nicole Bellino, Monica Caponigro, A.J. Caponigro and Taya Burman as well as five great grand-children.
