Loretta Claire (Missall) Miney

Loretta Claire Miney, 97, passed away on March 2, 2021 after a brief illness.

Loretta Claire Missall was born on October 14, 1923 in Staten Island, NY to George and Loretta (Brady) Missall. She was the youngest of her siblings, who included older brothers George, Charles (known as Cliff), and William (known as Stanley). Known by her middle name of Claire, she was a graduate of the Class of 1941 at Port Richmond High School. Throughout her life, she was known for her quick wit, sharp mind, and knowing laugh. During her career, she was employed at numerous bookkeeping jobs at various restaurants and catering halls in both Staten Island and New Jersey. She also worked as a licensed real estate agent in New Jersey.

In 1970, Claire and her family relocated to the Cromwell Hills neighborhood of Convent Station, NJ, where she became an active parishioner at St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Morris Township. She also joined the Cromwell-Olive Twig Auxiliary of the Women’s Association of Morristown Medical Center, as well as the Morristown Community Soup Kitchen. In her spare time and later years, she also enjoyed sewing, watching tennis, and socializing with friends. Claire loved to gather around the dining room table during the holidays and summer with her son and his wife, her grandchildren and their spouses, and her four great grandchildren enjoying many laughs and great food. She was especially known for bringing her soups, deviled eggs, cole slaw, and marble cakes to these gatherings.

Claire also enjoyed traveling with her husband and extended family throughout the United States, as well as numerous trips to Europe. She also relished many cruises to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia and New Zealand.

Loretta was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James F. Miney in 2004. Claire is survived by her son Raymond and his wife Janice, of Whippany; granddaughter Jacqueline Winters and her husband Paul, of Whippany; and grandson Raymond Miney and his wife Kathleen of Whippany. She is also survived by four cherished great-grandsons, Daniel and Andrew Winters and Colin and Dominic Miney. In her extended family, she also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 90 Whippany Rd. Whippany, NJ. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Visiting hours, Sunday, March 7th from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany
