Lou Mahoney, a long time resident of Summit NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11th. “Big Lou” as he was lovingly referred by family and friends, touched the lives of many as a loving husband of 66 years to Kay, a devoted father to his five children: Kathy, Mike, Tim, Terry and Brian and a proud and playful grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Ryan, Bailey, Shane, Michael, Kyle, Mitchell, Corey and Shane Jr. his great grandson. For those who knew Lou, he was always the teacher and mentor, someone who would never give up on a person whether they be co-workers at Western Electric, where he worked for over 30 years; or a student at Mooseheart, a school for orphans, where he taught after he served in the Army Air Corp during World War II; or after retiring from business, teaching college students at Essex College to overcome their fear of Math. He is loved by his family and lives in the hearts of all who knew him.
