Lydia Marusyn, (nee Yadzyn), 90, of Morris Plains, NJ, passed peacefully on August 7, 2023. Born in Sambir, Ukraine, raised in Jersey City, NJ and resided in Cedar Knolls then Morris Plains, NJ. Lydia worked for A&P, waitressed and hostessed at local restaurants including, The Governor Morris, Spring Brook County Club and eventually managed The Meeting Place in Madison, NJ for many years. She was a member of the St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Whippany, NJ and later St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Port, Florida. Lydia oversaw the kitchen and the volunteers to help raise money for the church and the children of Chernobyl in Ukraine. Lydia was a hardworking, courageous individual. She was devoted to her family, church, and country. She loved cooking, entertaining, and traveling. Lydia dedicated most of her time to helping others.
Lydia is pre-deceased by her husband Roman Marusyn. She is survived by her three daughters, Vera Shashkewych and her husband Bohdan, Gerry Beyer and her husband Dennis, and Halena Yasko and her husband Scott. Grandmother of Laryssa and her husband Michael, Matthew, Alexa and her husband Brett, Kaitlyn, Nikolas and his partner Jean, Kyle, and Kristina. Great grandmother to James, Nicolas, Emma, and Natalia. Also survived by her two sisters and two brothers, Marika Devito, Slawka Osadchuk, Dymtro Yadzyn & Myron Yadzyn.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 North Jefferson Rd. Whippany, NJ. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. Visiting hours, Friday, August 11, 2023, from 4 pm to 8 pm, with Parastas at 7 pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd.
