Margaret Ione Wilcox

Margaret Ione Wilcox, 96, a long-time resident of Chatham, N.J., passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023. 

 

She was born on July 9, 1926 in Altoona, PA.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Charlotte (nee Frye) Holbert, and sister of the late Jefferson Holbert. 

 

Peg, as she was known by her family and friends, was raised in Bayonne, N.J.  She received a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.V, in 1947.  Following her graduation, she worked in the file room at Esso in New York City.  Peg married David Wilcox and they moved to Chatham, N.J.  They were married for 67 years until David’s passing in April 2021. 

 

Peg was an active member of Chatham United Methodist Church where she was a member and past president and circle leader with the United Methodist Women.  Peg was also a member of the Chatham Women’s Club and the P.E.O.  She volunteered at the high school library and other community groups.

 

Peg enjoyed reading, watching old movies, history and travel.  She especially enjoyed yearly summer trips to the beach with her family and summer days spent at the pool at Chatham Fish and Game. Peg was known for her gracious and kind manner and her incredible memory.  Peg had many friends and enjoyed conversations about so many topics.  She was very dedicated to her family. 

 

Peg is survived by her beloved daughters, Nancy Wilcox Davidson and Ellen Wolyn and her husband Steven, and grandchildren Kim and Matt.

Funeral:
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Chatham United Methodist Church, 460 Main Street, Chatham, M.J, 07928 immediately followed by a graveside service in the church memorial garden where her ashes will be laid to rest. A short reception will follow the service at the church.
