Maria Del Mauro
03/12/1924 - 02/25/2019

Cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend

Maria Del Mauro, long-time Springfield resident, passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by her adoring family on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at her home.

Born 95 years ago on March 12 in the Southern Italian hill-top hamlet of Manocalzati, San Barbato, (Prov.) Avellino, the only child of Angelo and Angela Vitale, she began her life filled with selflessness and boundless love.

Married 40 years to her devoted husband, Luigi, who predeceased her, she left her sheltered world with him and her first-born son to create a better world with them.

Maria’s hard work for over 25 years with the Summit Public School System allowed her to share her love of preparing and serving food.  It was an extension of her daily life nourishing her family.  Her world-renowned lemon cookies, pizza and holiday meals are memories that will always be shared by those who knew her.  “Mangia!” was her cry.

Her devotion to family and her faith was unfathomable.  A dedicated member of the Madonna del’Assunta Society at St. Rose of Lima Church; the Rosary Society, Mother’s Guild and Seniors of St. James the Apostle Church and the Springfield Seniors allowed her to spread her warmth and smile with so many.

Maria was predeceased by her sons Angelo (Gene) and Louis.  She is survived by her children Gaetano (Nino) and his wife Cynthia, Joseph and his wife Marcy, and Gene and Louis’ wives Carol and Renee.  Her cherished grandchildren Christopher, Matthew and his wife Samantha, Michael, Jacob, Ben, Nicole, Nina, Luigi and her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
