Maria Ramona Fernandez, (nee Vilela), 77, of Mountainside, NJ passed peacefully on July 13, 2022. Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, she immigrated to this country in 1963. Ramona received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from  New York University, New York, NY. She worked for NYU from 1965-2012 and rose to the ranks as Associate Registrar. Ramona was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside and a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Mountainside Active Retirees. She was an Alumni of Alumnos del Colegio de La Inmaculada, Havana, Cuba. Ramona enjoyed going to Broadway shows, trips to Europe to see family and new places, beaches with calm oceans, scenic walking, dancing and enjoying the company of family & friends. She loved God, her family & her friends. Her “babies” (grandchildren), were her most prized possessions. She was a strong woman who sacrificed herself for her family & friends. She always saw the good in others and worked diligently to give her all and in doing so, inspired others to rise to their greatest potential.

She is survived by her husband, Teobaldo Fernandez of Mountainside, NJ, her daughter, Sofia Fernandez of Basking Ridge, NJ, her son, and his wife, Teo and Elizabeth Fernandez, her two grandsons, Luke and Mateo Fernandez all of Stirling, NJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 10 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Ave. Mountainside, NJ. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. Visiting hours, Monday, July 18th, 3 pm to 8 pm at the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. Springfield, NJ.
