Marian Ellen Farrell-Johnston, 69, of the Highlands, NJ. Passed away on November 7, 2023. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Boulevard, Chatham, NJ, on Monday, November 13th at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. in Chatham on Sunday from 6 to 8pm.
Born and raised in Union, NJ, the daughter of Michael and Ellen (Higgins) Farrell, Marian had also lived in Chatham for many years and more recently resided in Middletown. She received her bachelor’s degree from Bloomfield College and her master’s from Fordham. Marian was a teacher at the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center and previously worked at Bonnie Brae, Essex Catholic Girls High School, and ECLC in Chatham. She was a member of Corpus Christi and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the Highlands as well as the Sands Beach Club in Long Branch and the Historical Society for the Highlands. A history buff of the Titanic, Marian also enjoyed reading and throwing Halloween parties.
Marian was predeceased by her husband, Wayne E. Johnston. Marian was the beloved mother of Maura Johnston, and Liuxing Johnston. She is also survived by her dear cousin William Kelly and her sister-in-law, Marian Donoghue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marian’s memory may be made to BookSmiles, 7300 N.
