Marie Roche Sweeney, who previously resided in Chatham Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, with her family by her side. Marie was born in Orange, New Jersey on September 21, 1936, and grew up in South Orange. She graduated with highest honors from both Benedictine Academy and Chestnut Hill College.
Marie met her future spouse, Edward (Ed) Brice Sweeney (deceased), at the renowned Bluffs in Bay Head. Following that, the couple made their family home in Chatham Township, NJ, where she was a member of the Overlook Twigs, Brownie troop leader, and a parishioner of Corpus Christi Church, where she instructed CCD for many years. Marie was a woman who had deep faith and attended mass daily.
Besides her volunteering, Marie had a love for reading, solving NY Times crossword puzzles, and was an expert in Jeopardy.
Marie is survived by her children Ted Sweeney (Lynn), Karen (Skip) and Suzanne and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, Teddy, Matthew and Caroline. Marie was predeceased by her sister, Patricia.
