Marilyn A. Conti
04/05/1937 - 01/11/2022

Marilyn Conti, 84, of Whippany, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Livingston for 24 years before moving to Whippany in 1985.

She was the daughter of the late August and Florence (McCabe) Purello.

Marilyn was a shining light in the lives of all who knew and loved her with her infectious smile and fun-loving spirit.

It was that beautiful smile which first captured the heart of her future husband, Joe, and began what was to become a 68 year-long love affair.

She was a proud Jersey girl who loved all things Irish, summers at the Shore and cheering on her Yankees and Giants. She worked as a bookkeeper, operating her own small business for many years.

Adventurous at heart, she was always up for a road trip with no particular destination. That spirit served her well on her many vacations with the love of her life, Joe. However, a nice chat over a hot cup of tea or curling up with a good book were also some of her favorite pastimes. Her lifelong love of flowers was the perfect complement to her sunny disposition. Fiercely loyal, Marilyn always stood up for who and what she believed in. Above all, spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, brought her the greatest joy.

She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph. She was the loving mother of her son, Kevin, daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Raymond, and the cherished grandmother of Raymond, Katherine and her husband Michael, and Carolyn.  Marilyn was predeceased by her dear sister, Joan, in 2016.

A memorial Mass in celebration of Marilyn’s well-lived life will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 90 Whippany Road, Whippany, New Jersey.

The family welcomes donations in Marilyn’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org or Alzheimer’s Association of Greater New Jersey www.alz.org.
