Loving Wife, Mother & Grandmother

Marjorie Louise Politz, of Chatham, NJ and Lake Ariel, PA, and former longtime resident of Summit, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023.

Marjorie was born in 1948 in Wyomissing, PA to Thomas Van Reed Lerch, MD, and Marjorie Apryle Lerch. She was employed at Gilbert Associates in Reading, PA; Holmes Insurance Agency in Summit, NJ; BOC Gases in Murray Hill, NJ; and ADP in Roseland, NJ.

In 1972, Marjorie wed Patrick Michael Politz, and they spent 50 ½ years full of love and laughter. Marjorie quickly became a stepmother to three children, Patrick, Maria (Ria) and Ellen, and they had two children of their own, Michael and Dorothy (Dorrie).

Marjorie, known to family and friends as “Margie,” enjoyed spending her free time with her loved ones, reading countless cookbooks, watching cooking shows, and listening to stories about her grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by her two children, Michael Van Reed, and his fiancé Jenna Intersimone; Dorothy (Dorrie) Apryle Gagnon and her husband Brian; grandchildren Thomas, Emily, Anna, Sarah, Caroline and Peter; stepdaughters Ellen Butto and her husband Michael; grandchildren Sawyer, McCale, and Aubrey; Ria and her husband Michael; and grandchild Brianna.

Marjorie has three sisters, Linda Woislow married to William of Lake Ariel, PA; Susan McKendrick married to James of Sinking Spring, PA; and Jane Hughes from Lititz, PA. The four sisters enjoyed laughing and dancing to music. Abba was Marjorie’s favorite group.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Van Reed Lerch, MD, and Marjorie Apryle Lerch, and by her stepson, Patrick Michael Politz, Jr. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for bringing joy to each and every person she met.
