Mary Ellen Moodie (nee Gessler) passed away on June 10, 2022 at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, NJ
She was born December 12, 1927 in Philadelphia and raised in Fox Chapel, PA. She later moved to Montclair NJ.
In New Jersey, Mary attended secretarial school and later met her husband of nearly 70 years, the late William C. Moodie, Jr. In the early years, she raised her family in Chatham, eventually moving to Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Mary was generous, talented and loving. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends in Berkeley Heights, and during the summer at her home in Loveladies, Long Beach Island. She was known for her homemade apple and blueberry pies. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes. After years of volunteering in her children’s activities, she enjoyed art classes at the Visual Arts Center of NJ and playing tennis. She was a member of Stanley Congregational Church in Chatham for over 50 years before moving to Fellowship Village.
Mary is survived by three children, Gail Moodie of Rhode Island, Wayne Moodie (Patricia) of Florida and Clifford Moodie (Valerie) of New Jersey, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A private family service to celebrate her life will be held at Bradley Funeral Home in Chatham.
