Mary Frances Garrigan, 79, of New York, NY and formerly of Green Brook, NJ passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, Yonkers, NY.
Mary was born on December 3, 1941 in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bertram and Julia (nee Flood) Garrigan. She was a graduate of Marylawn of the Oranges, received her Bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University and furthered her education at Kean University with a Master’s degree.
Mary worked as a 3rd grade teacher for over 30 years at Sussex Avenue School in Newark. She was a member of various book clubs, an avid reader and frequent traveler. Always fascinated by the story, meaning and intercession of angels–she has joined their flock.
Mary was predeceased by her brother, Bertram Aloysius Garrigan, Jr. She was the loving sister of Elizabeth Brady, New York Richard Garrigan (Patricia), Omaha, NE and Dennis Garrigan Durham, NH, sister-in-law Carole (nee Paduano) Garrigan and several nieces and nephews: John Lawrence Garrigan (dec), Michele (Garrigan) Topolski Curt Garrigan, James Patrick Garrigan (dec), Colleen Brady, Kenneth Brady, Erin Garrigan, Sean Garrigan, Patrick Garrigan, Lisa Garrigan Richardson, Brian Garrigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 40 Alden St, Cranford, NJ 07016. Masks and social distancing to be observed. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dominican Sisters of Summit, 543 Springfield Ave, Summit, NJ 07901. A Celebration of Mary’s Life to be scheduled at a later date.
