~~Mary Lou Davis, 74, of Short Hills passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, Mary Lou was raised in West Orange. She has lived in Short Hills for the last 52 years. She graduated from Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, attended Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Massachusetts, and graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth.
A championship golfer, Mary Lou was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club, the Heritage Ridge Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, and the Baltusrol Golf Club, where she was former Chairman of Women’s Golf. Mary Lou was also the first female President of the Racquets Club of Short Hills. An integral part of the community, Mary Lou was also active with Meals On Wheels, and the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband John; children Elizabeth Davis Longton (David), John J. Davis, Jr. (Erin), James M. Davis (Kerry) and Meghan L. Gruchacz (Peter); grandchildren Elizabeth Farrell, Jack Gruchacz, Molly Davis, Riley Davis, Mary Louise Gruchacz, Shane Davis, and Courtney Davis; sisters, Gena Tyner and Margaret Bigelow, and sister in law Angela Delaplaine
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11:15am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield.
