Michael Hnatyszyn

~~Michael Hnatyszyn, 89, of West Orange, NJ, peacefully passed into eternal rest with his loving family beside him on November 5, 2014. He was born on August 16, 1925 in Saranczuky, Ukraine.

Michael was a soldier in the Ukrainian Army and after World War II, was sent to England, where he met his wife, Kathleen. Together they immigrated to the United States in 1954 where they were married for 61 years. Michael is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Blackwell), of West Orange, his daughters Mychalina Hnatyszyn of West Orange, and Maria Schenck and her husband Douglas and his grandson Kurt of Long Valley. Michael was the owner of Vailsburg Auto Body in Newark, NJ until 1980. He then moved the business to Mine Hill Auto Body where he worked until present. Through the years, Michael made many acquaintances through the business, and many of which remained friends. Michael loved his family, enjoyed playing the Bandura and working on cars. He was an honest, hardworking man and would offer a helping hand to all of God’s creatures.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 North Jefferson Rd, Whippany. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visiting hours, Sunday 2 to 6 pm, with Parastas at 5 pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s name may be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 733 Sanford Ave, Newark, NJ 07106.
