Nancy Powers Thomson, of Basking Ridge, passed away at Morristown Medical Center on June 20, 2022. She was 96.
Born on January 19, 1926 in Meriden, CT to the late Clarence and Mollie (Minkwitz) Powers, Nancy attended Connecticut College and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
“Nan” was kind to every person and every creature. This was reflected in her words, deeds, and especially, through her smile. Her generous spirit and philanthropy were devoted to wildlife preservation, conservancy of the earth, human rights, and poverty across the globe. Loved by many, she never made a friend she did not keep.
Nan served for many years as a docent and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Morris Museum. She was a member of the Junior League of Morristown and a long- time member of Chatham United Methodist Church.
Nan was the beloved wife for 70 wonderful years to the late R. Donald Thomson. She was an invaluable partner to his success in the family owned tea business – Henry P. Thomson, Inc. They traveled extensively both home and abroad. Their beautiful dancing captured the gaze of many, even when they were well into their 90’s. Nan also treasured every opportunity she had to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Nan was the loving mother of Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Amici (Eugene), Amy Rutter (Thomas) and the late Peter Thomson. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher J. Amici (Amanda), Daniel T. Amici, Michael R. Rutter (Larissa) and J. Tyler Rutter (Carolyn) and great-grandmother of Thomas, James, William, Henry, Avery, Peyton, and Carter.
