Nicolas George Cacouris, also known as Nic, passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 56 in New Jersey. He was born on May 4, 1967, in Pretoria, South Africa. He immigrated to the United States after several years living in Greece. Nic had a passion for music and loved sharing his favorite songs with others. He was known for his ever-present smile and positive attitude, always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Nic enjoyed keeping in touch with friends from around the world.

Nic is survived by his spouse, Joan Bratsch, and stepchildren Stephen and Allison Bratsch. He is also survived by his brothers, Amiras Cacouris and Derek Michael, his sister, Anastasia Cacouris, as well as his cousin Antoun Steve Deftereos. Nic will be greatly missed by his aunt Elaine Urosevic, uncle Vincent Joseph, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Venice Teresa Cacouris (nee Joseph), his father, James Demitrios (Mimi) Cacouris, his sister Nikki Stevens, and his brother Mark Anthony Michael.

Nic attended Pretoria Boys High School and later pursued higher education at The University of South Africa. He worked as a server in various restaurant establishments. Nic was pursuing a career as an Accredited Jewelry Professional and gem collector after graduating from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). He dedicated his time to studying and collecting gems and rock specimens. Nic’s passion for gemology led him to learn the art of cutting faceted gemstones.

Nicolas George Cacouris, or Nic, will be remembered for his love of music, his passion for gemology, and his warm and friendly nature. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in honor of Nic at Saint James the Apostle Church in Springfield, NJ, on Saturday, August 12th at 10am.
