Orest Lebed

Orest Lebed, 69, of Morris Plains, NJ passed away on October 15, 2023.  A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 N. Jefferson Ave. in Whippany, NJ on Thursday, October 19th at 10am.  There will be visiting hours at the church from 9 to 10am prior to the service.  Burial will follow at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in South Bound Brook.

Born in New York City, the son of Michael and Sophia (Hunczak) Lebed, Orest was raised in Maplewood, NJ, where he attended Columbia High School.  Afterwards, he graduated from Rutgers University in Newark with a degree in business. Orest worked his entire career at Judelson Industries, later acquired by the John Dusenbery Company in Randolph, NJ, where he started in the stock room and worked his way up to president.  In his youth, Orest was a member of the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization and the Chornomorska Sitch Sports Club, where he played volleyball, hockey, and excelled at swimming. In later years, he volunteered at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center in NJ, where he spearheaded the first 2 Ukrainian festivals. Orest also loved traveling and spending time at the family vacation home in Glen Spey, NY.

Orest was the beloved husband of 46 years to Alexandra (Lesia).  He was the loving father of Andrea Lebed and her husband Nick Yankauskas and Arianna Lebed and her husband Sebastian Misiurek.  He is also survived by his cherished granddaughter, Eliza Yankauskas and his dear sister, Motria Deluca and her husband David.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Orest’s memory may be made to the Plast Ukrainian Scouts Fund at www.scoutsforukraine.org.
