Patricia V. Filipowicz, 82, of Springfield, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at home. Born on New Year’s Day in 1939 in Newark to the late Eugene and Veronica Connelly, Pat grew up in Union and graduated from Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth. She enjoyed bringing people together. Whether hosting or attending family gatherings and birthday celebrations, she enjoyed the close company of family and friends. She loved being a grandmother to Kevin, Chris, Patrick, Amanda and Ryan. She especially enjoyed being a great aunt to Natalie. And she loved to make a difference in someone else’s life.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Peter A. Filipowicz, brother Eugene X. Connelly and sister Maureen Mitchell. Surviving are two daughters, Eileen (and Tom) Vass, and Laura (and John) Evers; and son, Peter.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 South Springfield Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. An interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
Our mom was a grateful person with a generous heart. She taught us all to say thank you for great things and small things alike. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, write a thank-you note to someone you love the next time the opportunity presents itself.
