Patrick C. Herzinger, 81, of Millburn, NJ, passed away on July 9, 2024. Visiting hours at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield will be held on Sunday, July 14th from 3 to 7pm. There will be a prayer service at 5pm during the visitation. The interment at the Chapels at Short Hills will be on Monday, July 15th at 11am.
Born and raised in Newark and Irvington New Jersey, the son of Raymond and Hilda (Pfeifer) Herzinger, Patrick had lived in Millburn for over 50 years. He graduated from the Lincoln Technical Institute in Newark, New Jersey with an Electrician’s Certificate. After graduation from high school, he joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War and proudly served from 1966 to 1970 and rose to the level of Sargent – Electrician, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan on the Kadena Air Base where he built the electrical systems and lighting for the aircraft runways.
Upon his return, he worked as an electrical lineman for PSEG Newark, and then Patrick went to college under the GI Bill and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Psychology from Kean College. In turn, he worked for many years as a social worker and Senior Counselor, counseling young adults with disabilities. After retirement, he was ordained as a Full Gospel Assembly Minister in Coatesville, PA. Patrick enjoyed art, drawing and especially oil painting, and spending time in the family summer home in the Poconos. Patrick was also passionate about watching Gunsmoke and old westerns with his grandkids.
Patrick was the beloved husband of 59 years to Susan. He was the loving father of Mark and his wife Georgiann, and Kenneth and his wife Farrah. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Isabel and Vivi. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick’s memory may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28201-0001.
