Peter Paul Kowal, Jr. of Summit, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, September 29th after a long, hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 77. The world has lost a devoted father, grandfather and friend.
Peter, an only child, was born on August 27, 1945 in Summit to parents Peter Paul, Sr. and Lucretia (Tyson) Kowal. Peter worked for Crown Oil in Chatham, NJ for 18 years and then served as building and grounds for the Summit Board of Education until his retirement in 2010. Peter was a volunteer fireman with Chatham Borough Fire Department Engine 2.
Peter’s children will remember their fishing trips to the Atlantic Highlands and summer vacations in Wildwood, NJ. Peter also enjoyed hunting with his son and two grandsons. If you asked Peter his greatest accomplishment, it was his children and grandchildren.
Peter is survived by his two children, his son Paul Kowal of Oak Ridge, NJ and his daughter Lisa Shannon of Colonia, NJ, their spouses Robyn Kowal and Ken Shannon, and his five grandchildren, Chase, Cooper and Peyton Kowal and Kaegan and Kaileigh Shannon. His tireless love and devotion to his family were evident all the way up to his final moments.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 2 pm to 6 pm with a Firemen’s Last Call and Salute at 6pm at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, NJ. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, NJ.
