Philip “Jack” Lawrence Jr., 90, of Chatham Twp. passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday April 26. He was born in Summit, NJ and was a life long resident of Chatham. He graduated from Lawrenceville School and Princeton University. While playing for the Princeton Tigers he was known as “Blades Lawrence”. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII and obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After his discharge from the Army he went to work for Faulkner Fabrics and became president of their New York office where retired from in 1986. Jack was an avid golfer that started playing at the age of twelve and his passion with the game earned him a lifetime membership at Canoe Brook Country Club. He was able to shoot his age three times at 76,86, and 89. Jack also played paddle tennis at Canoe Brook, up until his death, three times a week for the club team. He started skiing late in life and always lamented not being able to go one more time.


Previously deceased are wives Barbara Wills Patten, Barbara Ann Nolde, sister Ann Preim and younger brother Richard Lawrence.


Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Irene Lawrence of Chatham Twp, daughter Susan d’Hont, sons Philip Lawrence III, and Douglas Lawrence. 6 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. Members of his extended families include. Whitney, Scott, and Craig Russell, Laurie DuFault, Geff, and Bruce Sanford along with 12 more grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
