R. Mason Kirkland, Jr., 90, of Chatham and formerly of Elizabeth passed away on September 02, 2019 at Chatham Hills Care Center.
Bob was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was the son of the late R. Mason Kirkland and Elise deRaismes Kirkland. Bob was a graduate of The Pingry School and attended Columbia University. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Church.
He was on the alumni board of Pingry School, the board of the family and children’s society, member of the Elizabeth Town and Country Club, and past member of the Bay Head Yacht Club. Bay Head was his second home, as was Westport, NY.
He traveled and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Worked for United Airlines, National State Bank, Eastern Steel Barrel, Saks Fifth Avenue and Liberty Hall Museum. Bob owned a trendy boutique-The Scene.
Bob is survived by his sisters, Ann Mason K. Bullen and Marie Tine K. Graham and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by sister, Elise Kirkland Chase Steele of Irvine, CA.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd., Chatham, NJ 07928. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bob to Elizabeth Coalition Homeless, 118 Division St, Elizabeth, NJ 07201.
