Raul Alejandro Diaz
04/07/1925 - 06/02/2018

Raul Alejandro Diaz was born on April 7, 1925 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico to Ramon Alejandro and Carlina Diaz. He was one of six children.

Raul immigrated to New York City in 1948, leaving his Mother and five siblings in Puerto Rico and set out to start his life at the young age of 23 years old.

He worked any job he could get, facing prejudice and discrimination because he was Puerto Rican. However, Raul did not let that be an excuse not to work hard and succeed. By the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s, Raul was able to send for his Mother and siblings who joined him in New York City, where they had the opportunity to build a better life for themselves. Raul believed in hard work, spend wisely, and save for a rainy day.

Not having been in New York long, Raul met and married Ophelia Puello. Their first child Carlina was born in 1950. Then, came Vivian , Susan and Millie.

Raul was passionate for baseball. He was a die hard New York Yankees fan, a creature of habit and played life by his own rules. He was a man of few words, but always had a funny Spanish proverbs to share. He had dozens of them.

Raul passed away on Saturday, June 2nd 2018 at 5:30 pm surrounded by family. He is survived by his Four daughters, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, one sister who resides in Puerto Rico, and nieces and nephews.

He is remembered for his passion for life, wry sense of humor, and love for his family.
