Regina E. Moore

Regina Elizabeth Moore, “Jean”, passed away peacefully at Brighton Gardens in Florham Park surrounded by her loving family.  She was 86. Jean previously resided in Nutley for nearly 50 years.

Born in Newark to the late Regina and Daniel Moore, Sr., Jean attended St. Rose of Lima GS, Our Lady of Good Counsel HS, and The St. Michael School of Nursing where she earned her license to be a registered nurse

In her early career, Jean joined Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Visiting Nurse, helping patients adjust to new prosthetics. While working there, she received a full scholarship to Seton Hall University School of Nursing, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She then went on to receive her Masters Degree in Public Health Administration from NYU.

Jean was a talented writer and became the “go-to” person assisting her peers in the writing and review of research papers and instructional policies. She enjoyed writing poetry and was published in Bergen Community College’s “Sweet and Bitter Fruit” quarterly collection of essays. She established the Irish Heritage Society of Bergen Community College, encouraging students and faculty to write essays about their Irish ancestry.

Jean enjoyed her career at Bergen Community College as an Associate Professor of Nursing , in the Maternal Child-Health Care Department as well as supervising her students in clinical training at Hackensack Hospital. Jean took a sabbatical to Europe and the Eastern Bloc countries to study Early Childhood Development and Day Care. She retired in 2001 after 33 years. A world traveler, she had an extensive book collection, especially about the history of the World War II era, American presidents, and Russian czars.  She also enjoyed music, especially Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald as well as singing duets with her sister, Colleen. Jean loved the Jersey Shore and spending time with her family there.

She was the cherished sister of Colleen Grant and her late husband Michael J. of Chatham and Daniel J. Moore and his wife Pam of Pt. Pleasant. She was the dearly beloved aunt to Nancy Medina her husband, the late Steve; Michael P. Grant and his wife Anita; Mary Kate Melilli and her husband Martin; Patricia J. Erben and her husband Dan; Kathleen Grant, Diana Moore and her husband Tom; and Jennifer Moore. Devoted great- aunt of Steven, Ryan, Peter, Katherine, Colleen, Daniel, Kevin, Claire, Julia, Jack, and Charlie. She is also survived by many cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family RC Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
Committal:
Immediately following the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover
