Richard E. Briechle

Richard E Briechle, beloved husband, father and teacher, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of June 27, 2023. He was 72.

Richard was born on September 11, 1950, to Ernest and Lydia Briechle in Maspeth, Queens. He later moved to Berkeley Heights where he met the neighbor across the street who eventually became his wife, Claire Briechle.They were married for over 40 years and had two sons, Richard J and Thomas Briechle.

Richard earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Rider University and Kean University, respectively, and taught high school Social Studies for 30 years at several schools including Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights and Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield. He was beloved by his students for his love of history, storytelling, and corny jokes.

Beyond his family and friends, who always came first for him, Richard also loved classic rock and amassed an impressive record collection over the years, with his favorite bands being the Allman Brothers Band, Yes, and, of course, The Rolling Stones. He also loved pro wrestling, vintage comic books, and action films.

The viewing will be on Sunday, 7/2 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home at 299 Morris Ave Summit, NJ 07901, (908) 273-2323 . The funeral will be at 10:30 am on Monday, 7/3 at Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South St, New Providence, NJ 07974 (908)-464-5177 . The burial will be immediately after the funeral at Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090 , (908) 232-0781 . All guests are welcome to attend a reception at Charlie Brown’s Fresh Grill at 2376 North Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ immediately following the burial.
