Richard Garcia, 43, of Whippany, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 29, 1980, Rich grew up in Keansburg, NJ, and graduated from Keansburg High School in 1998.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa Garcia; his daughter, Isabella Garcia; his loyal dog, Noah; his mother, Slena Santos; his father, Reynaldo Garcia; his brother, Sean Garcia; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rich worked for the United States Postal Service before embarking on a career with NJ TRANSIT, where he steadily rose through the ranks from bus driver to his most recent role as Director of Labor Relations.
Rich was known for his sharp intellect, sense of humor, and creative spirit. He had a deep love of photography and technology, along with a passion for music. As a DJ and drummer, music was a constant in his life. Rich also loved a good political debate and was fascinated by all things transportation-related. He enjoyed traveling and discovering new places with his family.
Rich and Melissa shared a beautiful love story that began 25 years ago when they met in an AOL chat room. Their first in-person meeting in a parking lot turned into a lifelong bond filled with love and adventure. Together, they built a life and family, which was made complete when their daughter, Isabella, was born 10 years later, alongside their two cherished pugs, Pudge and Noah.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rich’s life at his visitation (below) followed by a Repast at The Hanover Manor, 16 Eagle Rock Ave. East Hanover, NJ at 8:30pm.
