Richard W. Lewis

Richard W. Lewis, 79, died on November 29 after a long illness at his home in Far Hills, where he resided for the past 17 years. Prior to that, he and his family lived in Chatham Township.

He was born and raised in Syracuse, New York and was a graduate of Syracuse University, Class of 1959. His education was interrupted by his service with the United States Air Force. He was a Radio Operator from 1953-1956 during the Korean Conflict.

Richard worked for Esso as a Chemical Engineer. His career spanned 39 years, during which he worked in Tokyo and London. He retired from Exxon’s Florham Park location in 1997. He was a member of the Exxon Annuitant Club of the Morris Area. Richard was a devoted fan of Syracuse football and basketball and the Yankees and Jets.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Meredith Lewis (nee Mayer) of Far Hills; his son, Benjamin W. Lewis and his wife Carol Ann of Milford, PA; his daughter Amy Rose Lewis and her husband Bryan Rieger of Brookings, SD; his grandchildren Erin Cathleen and her husband Tyler DeGroat, Timothy James, Amy Leigh, and Shane Walton; and his great-grandson Damon Oliver DeGroat.
