Robert C. Sweetin, 64, of Chatham, NJ passed away on September 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Robert, fondly known as Bobby, was born to Frank and Mary Sweetin on March 31, 1959.  He was a lifelong resident of Chatham. After graduating from Chatham High School, he joined Air Force and flew around the world as a Flight Engineer on C141s.  He transitioned to the Air Force Reserves in December of 1987 when he joined the Chatham PD as a dispatcher. He became a sworn Police Officer in March of 1988.  In 1990 he was recalled to active duty and participated in the Gulf War both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He earned many commendations while serving his country including the Bronze Star Medal. He was also recognized for his expert marksmanship.

After the Gulf war he returned to Chatham PD. Officer Sweetin was one of the founding members of the reinstituted Chatham Borough Police Department Motor Unit.  Later, he was selected to serve as Traffic Safety Officer. He also represented his Local PBA as their delegate and went onto be the Morris County Chair for the NJ State PBA for 7 years.  He retired in 2013.  He returned to the department later that year as a civilian parking enforcement officer.

Robert is survived by his wife of 35 years Jacque (Gorwood) Sweetin, his sons Kyle and his spouse Christina of Greely, CO, Alex (AJ) and his spouse Nicolle of Chatham, NJ, his sister Kitty (Sweetin) Harless of Tahlequah, OK, George and his wife Maria Sweetin of Chatham, and Celeste (Sweetin) and Steve Donnelly of Pasadena, MD and the late Maryann Garges and Francis Sweetin.

Robert was most proud of his family but truly enjoyed all of his many hobbies which included his car, boats, fishing, racing, among other things.  His friends and dogs were truly dear to him but not necessarily in that order.
