Robert Odell Anderson

Robert Odell Anderson, formerly of Mendham, NJ, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Chatham Hills Rehabilitation Center. He was 95.

Born in Round Lake, NY in 1920, he had lived in Tenafly, NJ in the 1950s and 1960s and afterwards in Mendham & Mendham Township for many years.

A World War II veteran, he served over Europe as a navigator in the Army Air Corps, narrowly escaping through Nazi-occupied France after his plane was shot down in 1944. Mr. Anderson worked for four decades, including several overseas assignments, for Exxon before retiring. In the 1960s, he served on the Town Council in Tenafly. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, woodworking, volunteering for the Seeing Eye, and traveling with his wife Marjorie. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marjorie S. Anderson; two children, Kirstie A. Wilson and her husband, Dean of Chatham, NJ, and Kevin B. Anderson and his wife, Janet Afary of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his brother, David P. Anderson and his nephew Richard Anderson of Congers, NY; his niece, Nancy Moore of Charlottesville, VA; his granddaughter, Jaime L. Wilson and her sons Max and Jack Macchia of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; his grandson, Brett S. Wilson, his wife, Alison Piercy, and their daughter, Oona Wilson, of Jersey City, NJ.

Inurnment will be private. A celebration of Mr. Anderson’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Brookside Community Club, 1 East Main St, Brookside, NJ 07926. Donations in Robert O. Anderson’s memory can be directed to The Seeing Eye, PO Box 375 Morristown, NJ 07963-0375.
