Robert V. Roessner
02/04/1934 - 04/17/2023

Robert Victor Roessner, 89, a resident of Springfield, New Jersey, passed away on April 17, 2023. Born February 4, 1934 to Anna (Helmstetter) and Anton Roessner, Bob was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and great uncle.

Bob married Nettie Henson Roessner from Georgia in 1967, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.  Bob is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Jones from Cranford.  Bob is preceded in death by his mother Anna (Helmstetter) and Anton Roessner, and brothers Edward, George, and Joseph.

Bob attended Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield.  He served as an Army PFC from 1955-1957 and in the reserves until 1961. He then went on to attend Kean University.

Bob became a Springfield police officer in 1958, serving on the police force for 26 years, alongside his brothers Ed and Joe.  Many will recall that his brother Joe died in the line of service in 1961.  After retiring, Bob was a local school bus driver, a job he enjoyed very much.  He was driving the school bus on 9/11 when some parents never made it home to pick up their kids.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Springfield, New Jersey, and a member of Saint James the Apostle Church.   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 10:30 am, at St. James.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.  Condolences can be sent to Nettie Roessner at Sunrise of Westfield, 240 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey 07090.
