Rudy Simek, Sr.

Rudolph “Rudy” Simek Sr., 94, of Cedar Knolls, formerly of Bloomfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

Born and raised in Passaic, Rudy lived in Bloomfield for 45 years before settling in Cedar Knolls.

A Veteran of the US Navy, Rudy served during WWII, where he was a radio man on a destroyer in the Pacific. A lover of golf and baseball, Rudy was one of the Founding Fathers of Bloomfield Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 6904.

Predeceased by his sister Rosemary Wastak and brother Frank Simek, Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Florence (nee: Apito); children Bernadine Caulfield and her husband Conway, Rudy Simek and his wife Loretta, and Mary Esposito and her husband Dominick; grandchildren Michael Caulfield, Shana Caulfield, Corinne Collins, Stephanie Simek, Chloe Esposito and Julia Esposito; and 5 great grandchildren. Rudy was a kind and gentle man who lived for his family. His smile and contagious laughter brought joy to all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10am at Notre Dame of Mt Carmel Church 75 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 6:30-9pm at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home 49 Whippany Rd., Whippany.
